HAMMOND — Five people were shot when gunfire broke out at a Hammond apartment complex Thursday afternoon.
The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. at the Willow Villa apartments off Old Baton Rouge Highway. According to deputies, Javan Myers, 26 was killed after he and another person shot at each other during a fight over a request for a ride.
Four bystanders, including a 4-year-old, were injured and taken to a hospital. The 4-year-old and a 22-year-old woman were treated and released, while a 25-year-old man is hospitalized in serious condition.
The other shooter was taken into custody, Sticker said. Deputies later identified him as Marquanvius Jones, 30, and he is facing second-degree murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon charges.
