Blast of pollen accompanies first day of spring
BATON ROUGE - It's that time of the year that seems to irritate our sinuses all while covering our cars. Spring is back and so is pollen.
However, many people were outside enjoying the first day of spring on Friday. Others were headed to local car washes hoping to get rid of the pollen saturating their cars.
"Usually in spring and the fall, I'm definitely taking allergy medicine just to get through it, but you know runny nose, itchy eyes, all of it," said Jenny Baia. "So hopefully, it'll be gone soon."
Local car washes say the spring season is one of the busiest times of the year.
"Sunday, we had 700 and the day before we had almost 700, so it's a lot, said Garrett Breedy, assistant manager of Geaux Go Clean carwash. "People get their car washed. Next day, they come back."
However, many say no matter what they would prefer the pollen in lieu of more cold weather.
"For Louisiana, I think its been a lot colder than usual so it's been a little rough for us," said Jenny Baia, who is a springtime allergy sufferer.
Doctors say start taking allergy medication before you start having any symptoms. As far as keeping the family car clean, you're on your own with that one.
