BATON ROUGE - The state has spent millions on sending a team of State Troopers with the governor when he travels outside of Louisiana.

In the last few years, there has been an increased amount of travel as Bobby Jindal built a platform to run for president. He traveled out of Louisiana to campaign for other people in various states and now for himself.

The WBRZ Investigative Unit tallied the cost of security to be more than $3 million. Numerous candidates who are also governors have a state security detail provided at a cost to taxpayers. But, the PAC connected to the campaign for Scott Walker of Wisconsin paid his detail costs.

"It's our job to protect him. We are mandated by state law," Col. Mike Edmonson of the Louisiana State Police said.

Three years ago, Jindal insinuated he would not be running for president, though.

"In three-and-a-half years, I'll look forward to joining my wife and our three kids in the private sector and raising our kids and hopefully they'll continue to be alright back here in Baton Rouge, Louisiana," he said at an event in Ascension Parish in 2012.

In August, the Jindal family started building a home in the up-scale neighborhood University Club off Nicholson south of downtown Baton Rouge.
