An increasing drought situation will get little relief from showers and thunderstorms, though the best chance of the Storm Station 7-Day Forecast will come on Friday. Additionally, repeat heat shows no signs of letting up and will drive the feels-like temperatures to between 105 and 113 degrees well into next week.

An Extreme Heat Warning will take effect across south Louisiana and southern Mississippi on Friday from 11 AM to 8 PPM. The heat index values may run up to a dangerous 113 degrees during the afternoon. These extreme conditions significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, making outdoor activity hazardous during peak afternoon hours. Stay hydrated with plenty of fluids, linger in air-conditioned spaces, wear lightweight clothing, and limit strenuous outdoor chores to early morning or evening. Always check on vulnerable neighbors and relatives, ensure workers take frequent breaks in shaded areas, and call 911 immediately if anyone shows signs of heat stroke, as it is a life-threatening medical emergency.

Storm Chance Peak: best chances Friday afternoon and evening

Intense Heat Continues: no high lower than 97 degrees over next week

Quiet Atlantic Tropics: new disturbance to watch, no local threats

Tonight & Tomorrow: Muggy and uncomfortable conditions will continue across the Capital Area. Heat will linger well past sunset, with temperatures only slowly dropping to a low around 78 degrees.

Friday will bring another blazing hot afternoon with highs in the upper 90s. Humidity will make it feel like 105 to 113 degrees during the peak afternoon hours. A weak upper-level atmospheric disturbance will move south toward our area on Friday afternoon. This feature will serve as a trigger for showers and thunderstorms—the question is exactly where and how many form. From commute time into the evening, be alert to the potential for a strong thunderstorm that could produce a quick downpour and strong, gusty wind.

Up Next: Rain chances pretty much evaporate as the weekend begins. Heat will remain the dominant headline. Both days, highs will top out in the upper 90s, possibly even challenge 100 degrees with enough humidity still around (obviously) to keep heat alerts posted. Nights will offer little relief in the upper 70s. Skies will be mostly clear with a minimal afternoon rain coverage of 10%.

The dominant ridge of high pressure that has been shielding the region from organized rain and cooking temperatures will still be in control next week. However, there are some signs it may weaken just enough, with a little influx of moisture allowing some isolated showers and thunderstorms to be mentioned in an otherwise persistently hot forecast by the middle of next week.

The Tropics: The Gulf, Caribbean, and main tropical Atlantic remain quiet, with no threat of tropical development near Louisiana or the United States coast for at least the next seven days. A non-tropical area of low pressure over the far northeastern Atlantic near Europe has a low 20% chance of acquiring some subtropical or tropical characteristics this weekend. That system will drift toward Portugal and northwestern Spain.
