Three teenagers arrested after high-speed pursuit in stolen vehicle near Hammond
HAMMOND — Three 14-year-olds are facing charges after leading Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputies on a vehicle pursuit that ended with a foot chase into Hammond city limits over the weekend.
The incident began Sunday, Nov. 1, when TPSO deputies located a 2016 Kia Forte traveling on Wardline Road in the Hammond area. The car had been reported stolen earlier that morning out of Ponchatoula.
When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over and accelerated, initiating a chase that crossed into Hammond city limits. The chase concluded when the driver turned down a dead-end street. All three occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Deputies, assisted by K-9 Thor, quickly apprehended the 14-year-old driver. The remaining two passengers turned themselves in shortly after.
The 14-year-old male driver was booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on charges of theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated flight, resisting an officer by foot and runaway juvenile.
The two 14-year-old twin brothers were issued summonses for illegal possession of stolen things, which is a felony.
