The band asked for prayers for the two officers who were shot on Fairfields Avenue in what appears to be a suicide by cop situation. The university said officer Theodore Smith III had been a member of the band while he attended Southern. The band shared pictures of Smith on its Facebook site.
Both Smith and the other officer involved, Sean Garic, were treated at a hospital and both had been released by Monday evening.
"We are grateful to you both for your service, and most importantly that you are still with us," the band wrote on social media.
Garic and Smith were able to return fire after being shot by the suspect early Saturday morning. The suspect died at a hospital Sunday.
