WATSON - Leaking sewer pumps and noise are causing headaches for a handful of people in Livingston Parish who live on Cedar Ridge Court in Watson.

Two pumps are right in between two houses, and residents in those homes are tired of the problems.

"It's very obnoxious. It vibrates the inside of my home. It's very unpleasant," said resident Brian McRae. "They say they're fixing it, but it goes right back to the same thing the very next day. It's leaking again. It's running for hours throughout the day vibrating pictures off the wall darn near. It's just terrible."

Crews from DEMCO and the Livingston Parish Sewer District spent Tuesday working in the rain to fix multiple problems with the pumps. Between electrical issues and a deteriorating well, the pumps are in need of service weekly. Livingston Parish Sewer District I & II Operations Manager Jamie Fontenot says the parish took control over the old pump station years ago and then rehabilitated it. However, things are not working out.

"Something else needs to transpire. I don't think that the pumps belong here. I think they need to go away. They're 20 feet from my house. I smell sewer all the time," said McRae.

Fontenot says this week he will discuss long-term solutions to remove the station within the next year or so if possible. Engineers would have to come up with a solution.
