BATON ROUGE - Louisiana politicians took to social media after the announcement that US Attorney General Pam Bondi had been fired.

Governor Jeff Landry said that Bondi was a "good friend" and thanked her for her work in making Louisiana a safer place

"I want to thank my good friend Pam Bondi for her service as our Nation’s Attorney General. Working together, Louisiana has seen improved public safety in every corner of our State. Likewise, America has become safer during her time at the DOJ. I look forward to working with Acting AG Todd Blanche to continue this successful partnership."

Bondi was heavily criticized over her handling of demands for transparency over the Epstein files. In an interview, Bondi said she had Jeffery Epstein's "client list" on her desk. Afterward, the Justice Department said the document didn't exist.

Dist. 2 Congressman Troy Carter pushed for the release of the files after her firing.

"Pam Bondi has been fired and it's about damn time. Accountability matters, and justice will prevail. Now release the Epstein files," he said.

Dist. 6 Congressman Cleo Fields echoed the same statement, criticizing Bondi's handling of the situation.

“Today's news that President Trump has fired Attorney General Pam Bondi is deeply troubling — not because of who is leaving, but because of why. I have been deeply critical of Attorney General Bondi's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. She stood before the American people and falsely claimed that an Epstein client list was sitting on her desk. The Department of Justice (DOJ) later walked that back entirely. That was not a misstatement — it was a failure of transparency that shook public trust at a moment when Americans deserved straight answers," he said.

Fields said he's asking for transparency before moving ahead with a permanent replacement for the country's top lawyer.

"The Justice Department is not the President's personal law firm and shouldn’t be used as a tool for retribution. I am calling on the Senate to demand full, public answers about the Epstein files before confirming any new Attorney General. The next nominee must be asked plainly: Will you protect the independence of this institution? Will you release the Epstein files without political interference and commit to the principle that no American — regardless of party — is above the law? The American people deserve a Justice Department that answers to the Constitution, and we will not stop pushing for the truth.”
