BATON ROUGE – A truck driver is charged with blocking traffic on the interstate Tuesday night.

Wesley Caldwell, 55, parked his rig in the right lane of the interstate heading east on I12. He continued to back up traffic in Livingston parish late Tuesday night, and early Wednesday morning. When State Police told him to move, he refused.

A spokesperson for State Police, Bryan Lee said parking the truck in the road, is punishable with jail time.

"It's illegal to block an interstate. It's actually a misdemeanor offense, which is jailable," Lee said.

State Police say Caldwell refused to get out of the cab, so they climbed in and forced him out. His pants came down in the process. After Police had his in custody he offered a strange excuse for the back up.

"The explanation that the driver offered was that he thought his truck was moving," Lee said.

Another truck driver, Darius Hart was stunned when he heard about the case.

"He parked in the middle of the road? That's crazy," Hart said. "He deserved that right there."

Police do not think Caldwell was intoxicated at the time. Caldwell is charged with blocking a lane and resisting arrest.
