BATON ROUGE - Devon Gales, a Southern University football player, will be released from a rehabilitation facility Wednesday.

(LIVE STREAM HAS ENDED)

Gales has been undergoing nearly five month of recovery after an injury during a football game in September.  Gales, a wide receiver for the Jags, was injured in a game against the Georgia Bulldogs. His neck was fractured in several places and he went through several surgeries and months of rehab.

His team of doctors gushed about Gales, and his infectious positivity and determination as he spent months relearning basic skills.

"The odds are not good that he's going to get back full use of his arms and his legs. Will we take it with divine intervention, of course," Dr. Brock Bowman, the associate medical director at Shepherd Medical Center, said.

It's a challenge most could never imagine, but his doctors and therapists say Devon is something special.

"I think he has a pretty good handle that this is a relatively big injury and he may not be able to erase it, and he probably won't baring some kind of miracle, but he says, 'alright, I still have a life to live, I still have an impact. There are ways that I can still positively impact those around me,'" Dr. Bowman said.

The entire community talked about the huge impact Devon has had on other patients and employees, like his physical therapist, Daniel Daoe.

"We feed off of what our patients give us, too. Having a guy like Devon, who comes in the gym playing jokes on people, making people laugh, we feed off that.  It makes us work that much harder," Daoe said in an exclusive interview on WBRZ News 2 at 10:00 Tuesday.

Devon has also spent some time with the Georgia Bulldogs and had a special invitation to the UGA Gala. Even after all of his adventures the only place Devon wants to go is home.

Wednesday afternoon, he will graduate from the Shepherd Center in a special ceremony in Atlanta. After that he will have one final therapy session before another special event at the University of Georgia Thursday.  He'll heads back to Louisiana in a few days.
