BRPD: Police confront man with stolen firearm in Marriott Hotel parking lot
BATON ROUGE - Police arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly threatened a victim with a firearm and tried to resist officers.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, officers responded to the 2300 block of Brightside Drive around 1 a.m. after receiving a report of a man threatening a victim with a firearm.
Upon arrival, police were informed that the suspect had left the scene in his vehicle.
Officers soon found the suspect, 18-year-old Michael Morris, a few blocks away in the parking lot of a Marriott Hotel. Police say Morris refused to comply with loud, verbal commands to step from between two vehicles and show his hands.
Instead, police say Morris removed a handgun from the bag he was holding and walked over to the front driver's side door of a black Mercedes. Officers say he then tossed the gun into the vehicle.
Police recovered the gun and discovered that it had been reported stolen. After Morris was placed under arrest, officers discovered that he had a prescription bottle containing what was believed to be Codeine and Promethazine. Police say the prescription bottle also had the label partially removed.
According to arrest records, Morris gave officers a false name, but authorities were later able to positively identify him through other means.
