BATON ROUGE - One person was injured in a shooting near Southern University, Saturday, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.

The shooting happened around 1:00 p.m. at the intersection of Sora Street and Tern Street. One person was shot and transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Rodney Washington owns the Jags detail, and snack shop, on the corner of Scotlandville Avenue and Sora streets, the scene of the afternoon shooting.

"First of all, I tried to stop the fight, and they weren't trying to hear what I was talking about. I had my family out here, and I didn't want anything to happen to my family," said Washington.

News2 reporter Earl Phelps was on campus getting reaction to the arrest in the murder of Wayde Sims when he heard gunshots.

A second shooting was reported earlier around 10:00 a.m., but BRPD said that report was "unfounded" and no injuries were reported.
