Amite Warriors watch fellow alum become governor
AMITE CITY - Juniors at Amite High School watched fellow Amite Warrior, John Bel Edwards, take his oath as Louisiana's new governor today.
"(It) gives me a lot of inspiration to think that someone who's the governor of Louisiana, came from the small town of Amite," said Kristen Good, a student at Amite High School.
The students have been following Edwards' campaign trail from the very beginning, during their social studies class. Teachers say their connection to the new governor has motivated students to learn more about state politics.
"He's gone a lot further than just high school so I'm looking at the future, maybe I can do that, too," said Darius Dees.
