State Fire Marshal's 'Operation Save-A-Life' designed to increase fire safety awareness, promote education

BATON ROUGE — National Fire Prevention Week is next week, and the Louisiana Office of the State Fire Marshal's "Operation Save-A-Life" campaign is designed to increase awareness and promote education, as well as provide life-saving resources.

The Fire Marshal's office says that the public service campaign is designed to increase awareness and educate consumers about the dangers of fire, its related hazards and how to prevent them.

The statewide initiative's goal is to dramatically reduce fire-related injuries and deaths across the state by providing smoke alarms to vulnerable citizens and at-risk communities through local fire departments.

This year's National Fire Prevention Week also focuses on these themes, promoting safe electronic charging to prevent lithium-ion batteries in e-bikes, phones and other devices from overheating and catching fire.

State Fire Marshal Chad Sonnier and Assistant Chief Kory Leo, the director of community risk reduction at the department, visited 2une In on Thursday to share more about the initiative and National Fire Prevention Week.
