Friday morning video forecast

Related Story

A slightly quieter day is expected across South Louisiana Friday, but don’t get used to it—storm chances ramp back up heading into the weekend as a cold front approaches. While only spotty activity is expected today, Saturday will bring better coverage and the potential for a few stronger storms.

Today and tonight: Friday will feature a mix of sun and clouds with highs climbing into the low to mid 80s. Rain coverage will be lower than the past few days, but a few isolated showers and thunderstorms will still be possible during the afternoon and early evening. Most areas will stay dry, and any storms that do develop should be brief.

Tonight will be warm and muggy with lows in the upper 60s, and skies becoming partly cloudy. Rain chances diminish quickly after sunset.

Up Next: Storm chances increase on Saturday as a cold front approaches the region. We’ll see more widespread showers and thunderstorms, and while this won’t be a washout, more locations are expected to see rain at some point during the day. A few storms could become strong with heavy rainfall, but severe weather is not expected to be widespread.

By late Saturday into Easter Sunday, the front moves closer, bringing the potential for more widespread rainfall before pushing out or stalling nearby. Early next week, trends drier, with cooler or near-normal temperatures depending on how quickly the front clears the area.

What to look out for: Today’s storms will be limited and hit-or-miss, but attention turns to Saturday. A few storms this weekend could produce heavy rain and brief strong wind gusts, though widespread severe weather is not expected. Rain coverage will be noticeably higher compared to Friday.
