Five hurt in major crash on Perkins Road
BATON ROUGE - A crash involving multiple overturned vehicles closed down a busy intersection in Baton Rouge late Friday morning.
The crash was reported around 11:20 a.m. at the intersection of Perkins Road and Staring Lane. Authorities say five people were taken to the hospital. One of those victims was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
Witnesses said an infant was among those involved in the crash. They also said it appeared one of the vehicles had run a stoplight.
A passerby tells WBRZ that she and other good Samaritans used a sledgehammer to help free some of the drivers who were trapped inside of their vehicles.
"I just stopped because I saw people in danger," said the woman, still clutching the hammer.
The roadway was closed in the area of the crash but has since reopened.
There is no word on potential charges at this time.
