East Feliciana Middle gets ready for school year by cleaning up

CLINTON - School officials are gearing up for the upcoming school year by making sure the halls and classrooms are clean.

Schools Superintendent Carlos Sam told News Two a private maintenance company was hired to clean up East Feliciana Middle School.

Over the summer, the school hosted kids from various grades in the parish for summer school.

Typically, the school would have prisoners clean up because of an agreement with the prison system. But this year, officials said they wanted an extra hand in the effort.

"We brought in extra help to make sure that we did a complete job. So that extra help basically allowed us to clean the schools in a very cost effective way, and efficient way," said Sam.

The money to clean up the middle school is coming from the operational maintenance budget which is supplied by state, federal government and tax dollars, according to school officials.

Voters will have the opportunity to renew three taxes that supply monies for the maintenance budget in October.

About 70 percent of the school is clean and the rest will be finished Friday and Saturday.
