BATON ROUGE - The door is once again open for RJ Luis Jr. to suit up for LSU basketball this season.

Luis is temporarily eligible to play for the Tigers without LSU facing punishment from the SEC, according to a report from The Advocate. The latest development comes after Luis' attorneys asked a Louisiana judge to prevent the conference from penalizing LSU if the former St. John's guard is added to the roster.

Luis' attorney Tony Clayton told 104.5 ESPN's Matt Moscona that he has reluctantly sued LSU, and indirectly head coach Will Wade, for not playing Luis and going against the conference.

Luis is not currently on LSU's roster, but the ruling could clear the way for him to play in the Tigers' season opener against New Orleans on Nov. 3 if LSU decides to add him. A preliminary injunction hearing is scheduled for Nov. 13 and could determine whether Luis remains eligible for the rest of the season.

The 2025 Big East Player of the Year has been at the center of an eligibility battle after going undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft and signing contracts with the Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics. Luis never appeared in an NBA or G League regular-season game.

Luis averaged 18.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and two assists per game during his final season at St. John's, helping the Red Storm win the Big East regular-season and tournament championships.
