Businesses see green with LSU game moving to Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE - Businesses near the Northgate district at LSU are seeing green following the announcement that the LSU and South Carolina Game will be played in the Capital City.
The announcement came just before 11 a.m. The game is being moved here since South Carolina is dealing with major flooding and rain.
At the Chimes near campus, General Manager Patrick Higgins said he expects to double or even triple the profits of the restaurant since the game is in Baton Rouge.
"Business is going to be a lot busier than we were planning for," Higgins said. "Right now we're scrambling to get it staffed up. For a home game we usually have 20 more people between the kitchen and the front of the house, now we are trying to get everyone who was off to come to work."
LSU Fans like Daniel Landry spent their afternoon at the Chimes. He hopes to be on campus with a ticket to the game. He knows Baton Rouge will do what it does best, and that's extend some welcomed southern hospitality to our friends in South Carolina dealing with so much.
"I was just talking to the bar tender, and she was saying our band was learning South Carolina's fight song," Landry said. "Hopefully we can make them feel welcome and put on a good show for them."
"I don't know how many away fans they will have, but everyone in south Louisiana can relate to flooding and hurricane problems," Higgins said. "I'm sure Baton Rouge will put it's best foot forward."
As businesses get ready, paramedics are also getting ready. During a typical game, Acadian has 23 paramedics in the stadium. Baton Rouge EMS usually has 16 outside. We're told Baton Rouge EMS may have to cancel some other events they already had scheduled to accommodate the LSU game now.
Either way, everyone believes it will be a positive move for the community. Visit Baton Rouge told WBRZ, it's too early to tell what the economic impact of Saturday's game will be on the city.
