WEST PALM BEACH, Fl. — Miss Louisiana Shelby Bordelon has won a Preliminary Evening Gown Award at the Miss America 2027 national competition.

Bordelon was named one of three recipients of the Portia & Scarlett Preliminary Evening Gown Award during the Miss America Preliminary Competition, held on Wednesday night. Each recipient receives a $3,000 scholarship.

The Miss America Final Competition is set for Sept. 6, where Bordelon is vying to become the first Miss Louisiana to be crowned Miss America.

Bordelon, from Sunshine, graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University. She is pursuing a career in nonprofit fundraising and currently leads Claire's Promise, a nonprofit against impaired driving. She started the organization in honor of her lifelong friend Claire Zeller, who was a victim of a drunk driving accident in 2024.

"We are thrilled that Shelby Bordelon, Miss Louisiana, was named a Preliminary Evening Gown Award winner last night. This is a tremendous accomplishment for Shelby and a proud moment for Louisiana as she continues her journey on the Miss America stage," said Dewana Little, Executive Director of the Miss Louisiana Organization.

Both Bordelon and Ava Martin, Miss Louisiana's Teen, are also competing in the Miss America's Got Talent competition as they each work toward a spot in the Top 11.

The Miss America's Teen Final Competition is scheduled for Sept. 5, followed by the 99 Miss America Final Competition on Sept. 6.

Voting in America's Choice is open through Sept. 4 for Miss Louisiana's Teen and Sept. 5 for Miss Louisiana.
