70-year-old man arrested after allegedly causing $10,000 in damages at Ascension cemeteries

PRAIRIEVILLE — A 70-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly drove through Ascension Parish cemeteries and caused more than $10,000 in damages. 

Footage shows that, on Aug. 10, a vehicle drove through two cemeteries along La. 933. Deputies say that the vehicle ran off the roadway before traveling through two cemeteries, causing more than $10,000 in damage to graves, caskets and cemetery fences. 

On Monday night, Byron Buie was arrested on five counts of desecration of graves, two counts of simple criminal damage to property and one count of hit-and-run driving. He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

"We appreciate everyone who took the time to watch the video, recognize the vehicle, and come forward with information.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details are being released at this time," deputies said in a statement
