ST. FRANCISVILLE — Parish President Kenny Havard told WBRZ that, after a proposition aimed at funding parks and other programs failed to garner enough votes, he is working with parish officials and lawyers to determine whether the measure was omitted from some ballots.

The sales tax ballot measure was rejected by 56% of voters. With the measure’s failure, West Feliciana Parish’ authority to levy and collect a 50% sales tax for 7 years—aimed at acquiring, constructing, improving, maintaining, supporting and operating recreational parks, facilities, equipment, programs and services—will not be put into place.

Following Tuesday's election, Havard says that his office is investigating whether the measure was left off some ballots in St. Francisville. He said he is working with the registrar of voters, the parish attorney and a tax attorney to determine whether this was the case.

If it was supposed to be on the ballot and wasn't, Havard says it will be brought back to voters. If they were omitted on purpose, he added, "the people spoke," and they will go with what the voters decided.
