BATON ROUGE— Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser and Volunteer Louisiana are opening a request for proposals for the 2027-2028 AmeriCorps State Formula grants.

Volunteer Louisiana accepts applications from governmental agencies, educational institutions and nonprofit organizations for the opportunity to create AmeriCorps programs within their organizations. The grants are funded through the federal AmeriCorps agency, and administered by Volunteer Louisiana, to support organizations that are working to address critical needs in communities across the state.

“Louisiana has always been a place where people step up to help their neighbors,” Nungesser said. "We are at our best when we take care of each other. AmeriCorps is a great way to put that spirit of service into action."

Volunteer Louisiana supports hundreds of AmeriCorps volunteers across the state who serve as tutors, mentors and in roles combating food insecurity, improving housing conditions, supporting veterans and military families, promoting environmental stewardship and responding to disasters.

“AmeriCorps volunteers roll up their sleeves to serve Louisiana communities and make a real difference in the lives of others. I encourage organizations across our state to take advantage of this funding and help us strengthen our communities through service,” Nungesser said.

Volunteer Louisiana encourages organizations interested in hosting AmeriCorps volunteers, particularly those serving rural parishes or communities not currently served by AmeriCorps state and national programs, to apply for the grants.
