BATON ROUGE — The interview phase of the Vatican's investigation into Baton Rouge Bishop Michael Duca has ended, and the material has been sent to Rome for review, the National Catholic Register reported on Tuesday. 

The Vatican was investigating Duca regarding how he handled an accusation of sexual misconduct by a priest. 

The investigation stems from an incident reported almost a year ago. A 60-year-old man said that Father Charbel Jamhoury, a Maronite priest who at the time was pastor of St. Isidore the Farmer in Baker, used an early-morning Saturday meeting in late September of 2025 to make sexual advances on the man and also stated that he missed having oral sex with boys.

The Register reported that the victim says he informed the Diocese of Baton Rouge about the incident in early October 2025.

The diocese issued a statement on Feb. 10, saying that Bishop Duca engaged in “extensive conversation with all parties involved,” as well as a “full health assessment” of Jamhoury before removing him as pastor.
