Security cameras capture Canal Street shooting
NEW ORLEANS - A 24-year-old man is in custody after he allegedly shot a man in the face during an argument caught on surveillance video on Canal Street, New Orleans' main drag.
It's the second shooting on the busy, tourist-friendly thoroughfare in as many days.
Police say at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Justin Lewis and the victim argued, resulting in Lewis shooting the victim in the face.
The victim, whose name was not released, collapsed nearby. He was taken to University Medical Center where he's listed in stable condition.
Lewis ran, but was quickly captured by police and Louisiana State troopers. Police Superintendent Michael Harrison said officers stationed on Canal Street as part of increased policing during Mardi Gras season were close enough to hear the gunshot and responded within seconds.
