BATON ROUGE — The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a scam caller claiming to be "Sgt. Willis." 

The scammer is calling residents, claiming they have missed a Federal Grand Jury subpoena and have an outstanding warrant. The caller then demands payment to avoid arrest, according to the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office. 

The scammer is using several tactics, such as calling from a 225 area code, leaving voicemails saying "urgent legal matter," attempting to verify residents' home address and other personal information, claiming there are issues involving residents' mail and using an aggressive and intimidating tone. 

The sheriff's office warns residents that callers providing them with personal information do not mean they are legitimate because scammers may already have access to publicly available information. 

The sheriff's office reminds residents that they will never call demanding money over the phone, threaten arrest if payment is not made and ask to provide money to resolve a warrant.
