BATON ROUGE – The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Adoption campaign has begun to support the needs of children and seniors in the Greater Baton Rouge area.

Children or seniors registered as Angels have their Christmas wish lists shared with donors, who purchase items and deliver them to The Salvation Army. To get involved, donors can either adopt an Angel here or purchase items from the Spark Registry that will be delivered directly to The Salvation Army.

"Baton Rouge has always been the most generous this time of year in giving gifts so that children and seniors within our community can have a magical Christmas," Julia Mathemeier, Director of Development of The Salvation Army of Greater Baton Rouge, said. "We are asking everyone to consider adopting an Angel this year so that no child or senior in need gets left out."

Last year, the Angel Tree provided gifts and clothing, along with items families needed for Christmas breakfast and dinner to over 1,000 children in the Baton Rouge area.

"We are seeing an increase in the demand for assistance this year and expect to serve 2,500 children and seniors," Mathemeier said. "It’s clear that many in our community are still in need."

Adoptions will end Dec. 11. For more information or to learn how to adopt, call (225) 436-7881.
