METAIRIE - An 11-month-old child is dead after her father left her in a car for hours Thursday, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said.

A spokesperson with the sheriff's office told WWL that the father, who has been identified as Sheng Li, left the girl in the vehicle earlier in the day.  

Li says he forgot to drop her off at daycare and went to work. He didn't notice she was in the car until later that day when he got home. 

By that time, the child was unconscious.

The girl was then taken to East Jefferson General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Charges are pending against the father. He faces one count of negligent homicide.
