Police: BR doctor not at fault in deadly crash, still faces charges for drunk driving
BATON ROUGE - A man whose vehicle was struck head-on by another driver is facing a vehicular homicide charge after police determined he was driving drunk at the time of the crash.
According to Louisiana State Police, 35-year-old Chenna Nalabolu is being charged—despite not being directly at fault for the deadly wreck—after a breathalyzer test determined his blood-alcohol level was .087 percent, just over the legal driving limit.
Police said the other driver, 22-year-old Summer McKinnon of Walker, was on Nicholson Drive around 3 a.m. when her vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and hit Nalabolu's car.
McKinnon was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and died at a hospital. Nalabolu was not hurt in the crash.
A State Police spokesperson said crash investigators determined McKinnon was at fault for the wreck, though Nalabolu was still booked based on the results of the breathalyzer exam.
