INDEPENDENCE — One person is dead and another is injured following an overnight drive-by shooting in the Town of Independence, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office. 

The shooting occured in the 200 block of Highway 40 between I-55 and Old Highway 51.

The sheriff's office said that one male was killed in the shooting while another was injured. The injured male is expected to survive. 

Officials said the shooting stemmed from a late-night gathering in the area.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office is expected to share additional information on the shooting alongside the Independence Police Department. 

The shooting remains under investigation.
