Potential Tropical Depression Five has formed just offshore, approximately 130 miles south of Morgan City. The system will be short-lived, tracking west through the northern Gulf before making landfall somewhere between Houston and Lake Charles by Tuesday.

Fortunately, Five will remain a weak system, but could bring heavy rain and tropical-storm-force wind gusts to the Upper Texas and far southwest Louisiana coasts. The majority of impacts will remain over water.

Tropical Storm Watches/Warnings posted for parts of the Gulf Coast

Tropical Storm Watches/Warnings have been issued from the Vermilion/Cameron parish line westward to Port Bolivar, Texas. This comes with increasing tropical development odds in the northern Gulf. While a formal tropical depression or storm hasn't formed just yet, one is expected to develop and move toward the northern Gulf Coast within the next 72 hours.

Because of the potential threat in the short term, the National Hurricane Center has initiated advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone Five. That also comes with a forecast cone, which shows the system becoming Tropical Storm Edouard before making landfall somewhere between Houston and Lake Charles by Tuesday.
