New Jersey officers return to Baton Rouge after helping in 2016 flood

BATON ROUGE - Several New Jersey police officers traded in their uniforms for purple and gold at the request of Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore.

Moore and the Baton Rouge Police Department invited the Jersey natives down to Tiger Stadium as a thank-you gesture, for their service during the Great Flood of 2016.

One-year ago, these officers delivered flood relief supplies to Baton Rouge families in need. One of the officers, Jesse Novalis, said it was the right thing to do.

"There's no better way [to give] than to bring a 26-foot truck and deliver it with supplies to the people that need it," one of the officers said.

Now a year later, the officers returned to Baton Rouge for a good time with the same BRPD colleagues they worked with during the flood.

"Last year, we didn't get to spend too much time with them, but you could tell they were very genuine guys and we kept in contact," Novalis said.

Officers say they thought of the idea last Monday.
