PORT ALLEN — A man arrested following a fatal 2022 crash that killed two West Baton Rouge Parish teenagers pleaded guilty Monday.

Tyquel Zanders entered a guilty plea to two counts of manslaughter, as well as one count each of aggravated flight from an officer, obstruction of a highway, negligent injury and reckless operation.

The La. 1 crash, which killed 17-year-old Maggie Dunn and 16-year-old Caroline Gill, happened during a police pursuit that spanned both East Baton Rouge and West Baton Rouge parishes on Dec. 31, 2022. A third person, Dunn's brother Liam, was also injured in the crash.

At some point in the chase that started in Baton Rouge, Zanders led officers into West Baton Rouge Parish, resulting in a deadly crash with an unrelated vehicle. The pursuit ultimately ended back in Baton Rouge near Dalrymple Drive.

David Cauthron, a former Addis Police officer involved in the chase, previously pleaded guilty to the teens' deaths. He was sentenced to 10 years behind bars in May 2024.

Zanders is due to be sentenced on Nov. 5.
