BATON ROUGE - The LSU Tigers have landed just outside of the Top 5 in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll, according to USA Today.

The panel is chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the American Football Coaches Association their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.

LSU opened up fall practices on Thursday morning after students returned to campus the day before. The Tigers are also expected to make at least a Top 10 appearance in another poll due out ahead of the season.
