AUGUSTA - Smylie Kaufman missed a prime chance to claim a share of the Masters lead Sunday afternoon.

The former LSU Tiger ended his debut appearance at The Masters by tying for the 29th place at seven over par.

Kaufman started Sunday teeing off with defending champion Jordan Spieth.

Sunday’s finish was Kaufman’s best finish in two career appearances in a major championship.

Kaufman was trying to become the first player since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979 to win the Masters in his first appearance.

Fans will be able to see Kaufman soon. He is scheduled to play at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in two weeks at the TPC Louisiana in Avondale. He will join former LSU All-Americans Andrew Loupe and David Toms competing April 23-26
