BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge District Judge Gail Horne Ray's son, a convicted rapist, has pleaded guilty to 2024 obscenity charges.

Nelson Dan Taylor, 47, was arrested in October 2024 for allegedly exposing himself to a maid at a St. George hotel. Taylor was on probation until 2036 for a 1997 rape conviction.

Taylor's Aug. 18 guilty plea came with a one-year prison sentence, but he was given credit for time served. According to court documents, Taylor made the plea as part of a strategy to get multiple previous motions to quash his case sent to a higher court for appeal.

The court set Taylor's appeal bond at $250,000, an amount his defense objected to.

All judges at the 19th JDC have previously been recused from Taylor's case due to his mother sitting on the bench.

Taylor's trial was originally set for September.
