PLAQUEMINE — Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi, along with state and federal law enforcement officials, on Tuesday provided an update on the arrest of a suspected child predator accused of 29 counts of alleged abuse.

On Monday, WBRZ reported the booking of Timothy Barnes into the Iberville Parish Jail on 27 counts of child pornography, as well as one count each of computer-aided solicitation of a minor and indecent behavior with juveniles.

"Today we're putting a name and a face on the boogie man our parents warned us about," Stassi said.

Stassi said that the road to his arrest started when a "vigilant parent saw something suspicious and reported it."

"Our message today is straightforward: parents, pay attention to your children's online activities," Stassi added. "You lock every window, every door, but the internet connection can still give predators access to your children inside your home."

At the time of the crime, Stassi said, Barnes was three states away.

"Distance offered no protection to this young child," the sheriff said.

He was arrested on Sept. 29 in Fort Myers, Florida, and later extradited to Louisiana, where he was booked earlier this week.

The operation began when a Cape Coral Police Department FBI Task Force Officer was contacted by the FBI New Orleans Field Office about the location of Barnes, who was actively wanted on an outstanding, full-extradition warrant out of Louisiana.

Stassi was joined by District Attorney Tony Clayton, as well as Louisiana State Police and FBI representatives, for the 9 a.m. announcement at the Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office.
