BATON ROUGE — Louisiana residents can now purchase federal flood insurance directly online following a new digital rollout by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The self-service tool, available at FloodSmart.gov, allows homeowners and renters across participating National Flood Insurance Program communities to get a price quote and buy a policy in just a few minutes.

The online purchasing option is accessible to residents in more than 2,500 participating NFIP communities across FEMA Region 6—which covers Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas—as well as nearly 22,700 participating communities nationwide.

Louisiana represents one of the highest concentrations of NFIP coverage in the country, with approximately 393,000 policyholders holding over $112 billion in active flood coverage. By comparison, neighboring Texas leads the region with 553,000 policyholders ($170 billion in coverage), while Arkansas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma account for an additional $7.7 billion in coverage combined.

“I’ve seen firsthand how floodwaters devastate American communities,” said FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton. “We are making it easier for people to reduce their financial risk and protect what they’ve spent their lives building. With this new digital tool, you can get a quote and buy a flood insurance policy in a matter of minutes.”

To use the tool, users enter basic building details on FloodSmart.gov to generate an instant quote. From there, applicants can choose to complete the purchase directly online or share their quote details with a licensed insurance agent. For those preferring local assistance, the platform will provide contact information for three licensed agents in their state.

Residents interested in exploring coverage options or obtaining a quote can visit FloodSmart.gov.
