CLINTON — The East Feliciana Parish School Board on Tuesday approved budget amendments that include decreasing employee positions throughout the school district.

The amendments, recommended by the board’s finance committee, are in effort to recoup lost dollars from the budget.

Superintendent Keisha L. Netterville points to two reasons why the district saw a $2.3 million decrease after initially approving the budget. First, the district saw a decrease in state Minimum Foundation Program allocation due to an increase in local revenue collection, she said.

The district received another blow when there was no funding allocated for educator stipends, and it became required for the district to use its MFP funds instead of the stipends.

Netterville said that to ensure East Feliciana Public Schools continues to maintain a balanced budget, the revised budget contains fewer employees than the original budget. It is currently unclear how many staff positions have been cut through the cost-saving measures.

“This reduction was done through attrition, meaning that in some cases where employees retired or resigned, their duties were assigned to existing employees,” Netterville told WBRZ in a prepared statement. “In making this budget reduction, East Feliciana Public Schools has remained strategic about meeting the individual needs of students through intentional scheduling and maximizing our human capital.”
