Dixon inmate indicted for murder convicted on reduced charges in 2024 death of fellow inmate
JACKSON — A Dixon Correctional Institute inmate initially indicted on murder charges was convicted on reduced charges in the 2024 death of a fellow inmate.
Joseph Constance pleaded guilty Tuesday to negligent homicide and was sentenced to three years in prison. He was initially facing a life sentence for second-degree murder charges.
Constance, who was serving time in Dixon for rape, was found guilty of the November 2024 killing of 39-year-old Cornelius Kelly in the prison's yard.
Three other inmates—Taylor Williams, Terrell Holmes and Arsenio Well—face principal to second-degree murder charges in Kelly's killing.
