BATON ROUGE — Less than 24 hours after a Baton Rouge judge ruled in favor of several athletes fighting for a fifth year of college eligibility, Clemson told LSU that playing former professional football players could breach the contract the two schools have for their Saturday matchup.

Yahoo Sports reports that Clemson general counsel Chip Hood sent an email to LSU's general counsel saying that "certain eligibility" issues may violate the contractual obligations between the two schools. Hood made it clear that Clemson still intends to play in Tiger Stadium to open its season on Saturday.

Yahoo's reporting notes that Clemson is not seeking financial damages and does not suggest filing a lawsuit against LSU. Clemson, however, notes that it "supports the position of the NCAA and our conferences regarding the eligibility of professional athletes returning to play college sports."

LSU President Wade Rousse, on Friday, said the university will respect the court's decision.
