BATON ROUGE — Following the Monday morning evacuation of Tara High School, local authorities are now saying there is no threat on the school's campus. 

The school was placed on lockdown around 11 a.m. and then evacuated after reports of a potential threat on campus were called to local authorities. East Baton Rouge Parish School System officials enacted all district safety protocols. 

Students reported hearing what they believe sounded like a gunshot. Authorities have not confirmed a gun was fired on campus. 

Several East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office and BRPD units responded to the school shortly after the lockdown. An East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office spokesman said the coroner's office did not respond. 

School district officials sent a message to Tara High School families after the incident, confirming that the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office and Baton Rouge Police Department dispatched multiple units to Tara High School to secure the campus and monitor the surrounding area.

"We want to make you aware that 911 received a threatening phone call believed to have been made by a possible student," the statement reads. "At this time, there has been no incident on campus, and everything appears to be secure. However, the school is currently on lockdown as a precaution while law enforcement continues to assess the situation.

"We will provide additional information to families as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work with law enforcement to keep our students and staff safe."

BRPD Public Information Officer L'Jean McKneely told WBRZ that there was no credible threat found on campus on Monday and said a similar threat was called into Plaquemine Senior High School over the weekend. It is currently not clear if there is a connection between the two incidents. 

"What I can tell you is that we received a call this morning relative to a juvenile with a gun inside the school who wanted to harm himself and others," McKneely said. "Then, we notified BRPD officers, the sheriff's department, EMS, we have the helicopter in the air, special response team. We came out as quickly as possible and secured the area... As of right now, there's no credible threat at this time."
