BATON ROUGE — The East Baton Rouge's mayor-president's office is asking District 2 residents to share concerns about blighted areas as part of the 100 Day Blitz.

Community leaders are asking people in the area to bring forward ideas and specific spots that need help. The area has a high concentration of blight, including trash, tall grass, clogged ditches and other 311 calls for help.

The initiative uses open houses and targeted cleanups to address issues in specific council districts across Baton Rouge. It will focus on at least 20 streets in District 2 where 311 data is high.

"So we wanted these open houses to be a concept to where the resident can bring an idea, maybe a concern that I might not be aware about, 311 might not know, something that happened today so before we can get started we can make sure we have that data captured," Metro Councilman Anthony Kenney said.

"I'm most concerned about the lighting on Gore Road and the speed," said Rickey Taplin Sr.

Residents could see improvements to some blighted spots as early as next week. "Some areas might take 2-3 weeks, some areas might take a week or 2-3 days," Kenney said.

Residents can bring ideas tonight from 5-7 p.m. to the Scotlandville Branch Library or Alsen BREC Park.
