US 51 closed as authorities search for suspect who jumped out of vehicle after pursuit near Manchac

MANCHAC — A large police presence north of Manchac is searching for a suspect who jumped from a vehicle during a pursuit Tuesday morning.
Around 5:40 a.m., Louisiana State Police troopers said they were patrolling I-55 when they encountered a car driving at high speeds. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver did not stop for law enforcement, prompting a pursuit.
The chase covered parts of I-55 and U.S. 51, officials said, and ended just north of the Manchac area. The suspect then took off into the woods, with officers from several agencies responding to the scene between Old U.S. Highway 51 and U.S. 51 Business.
U.S. 51 was closed as a result of the investigation.
Louisiana State Police Troop L is leading the investigation, with troopers noting that the investigation is ongoing and that there is no active threat to the public.
