BATON ROUGE — A new Baton Rouge restaurant is offering soul food crossed with elevated dining, with a former LSU quarterback acting as the restaurant's chef.
Joelle's Soul and Savor opened earlier this month on Westfork Drive in the old Hawk's Nest restaurant, with Rohan Davey, who was a Tiger from 1998 to 2001, cooking up the food.
Davey was born and raised in Jamaica, and says he brings a Caribbean flair to the owners' vision of home cooking with an elevated atmosphere.
The menu includes dishes like grilled salmon with grab and grits, as well as fried seafood croquettes drizzled in queso sauce. The menu also offers all-day Sunday brunch with soul food favorites and southern breakfast staples.
Joelle's also offers craft cocktails like the TBA, a mix of tequila, Tajín and smoky grilled pineapple.
Restaurant COO Charles George, a former chef himself, visited 2une In on Tuesday to share more about the new restaurant, which got its name from co-owner Martin Knighthead's daughter.
