Lawsuit filed against LDEQ regarding low-carbon ammonia facility in Donaldsonville

DONALDSONVILLE - A lawsuit was filed against the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality over their decision to grant an air operating permit to a low-carbon ammonia facility in Donaldsonville, court documents show.
The lawsuit, filed by Rural Roots Louisiana, the Louisiana Bucket Brigade and the Environmental Integrity Project in the 19th Judicial District, said that the LDEQ's decision to grant a permit to CF Industries violated the Clean Air Act.
The plaintiffs argue that the decision to grant CF Industries a permit "violates the requirements of both the federal CAA and the state’s implementing regulations."
"LDEQ also approved these permits despite evidence that CFI performed an inadequate air quality analysis, and that the facility is in fact likely to cause or contribute to exceedances of the National Ambient Air Quality Standard for ozone," the lawsuit said.
The plaintiffs are asking for the court to vacate the permits, prevent further action regarding the permits and make LDEQ address violations detailed in the lawsuit.
WBRZ previously reported that the plant is expected to produce about 1.4 million metric tons of low-carbon ammonia each year, making it the largest facility of its kind in the world.
