BATON ROUGE- Tens of thousands of jambalaya junkies will invade Gonzales Friday, for the legendary jambalaya festival. It's the annual south Louisiana start of summer, food, and fun. This morning News 2's John Pastorek was in Gonzalez learning more about the celebration.

People from all over Louisiana will be in Gonzales this weekend, tasting legendary Louisiana mixtures of sausage and rice. The jambalaya is stirred up by former champions of the festival like Scott Duplechein, who won the title in 2013.

"There's no secret, just good rice," says Duplechein.

It's the festival's 48th year in Gonzales and it's grown into one of the premiere festivals in Louisiana. The festival will feature some of the best food in Louisiana along with great music and fun activities for the family.

"We have a good line-up," said Kenny Cornett, one of the musicians performing during the festival. "There's some kind of music for everybody.

Hoss Reine is the defending jambalaya champion. He says it's taken him 14 years to perfect his delicious recipe. Reine says the most important step for making great jambalaya is making sure you use tasty and flavorful ingredients.

The contestants battling for the title of "best jambalaya" will have three hours to perfect their dish. After the competition a taste test is performed, and a winner is crowned.

The festival is being held from May 22- May 24th. Everyone is encouraged to come out and take part in the fun. For more information on the festival visit the festival's website.
