It has arrived! The much advertised cold front has cleared the region and left behind brilliant weather for the weekend.

Today and Tonight: Friday will feature abundant sunshine and a much cooler, drier and more comfortable air mass with highs topping out in the mid to upper 70s. Northerly breezes of 5-10mph will continue. If you are heading out to some high school football, grab a jacket. Temperatures will fall through the 60s during the games and end up in the upper 40s by Saturday Morning—the coolest start since Early April!

Up Next: The weekend can best be described as—football weather! On Saturday, expect sunshine and highs in the mid 70s. For those planning on spending Saturday at LSU, Southern or Southeastern University, take layers. Morning tailgates and the evening gameplay will be chilly in the 50s and 60s, while the midday hours could feel warm in the sun but cool in the shade.  Sunday morning lows will again flirt with the upper 40s followed by sun and an afternoon in the upper 70s. Moderating temperatures and dry conditions are expected through the middle of next week.

The Tropics: An unorganized area of showers and thunderstorms north of the Bahamas has continued to struggle with development. Still, a tropical or sub-tropical storm may form before the same cold front that crossed the local area pushed this system out to sea.

Forecast Discussion:  With a cold front south of Baton Rouge and in the Gulf of Mexico, surface high pressure building in from the Midwest will maintain northerly breezes and cooler than average temperatures through Sunday Morning. Temperatures will begin moderating Sunday onward as an upper level trough exits the Southeastern United States and a ridge builds back in from the west. The next chance of rain may not come until the latter part of next week.
