DENHAM SPRINGS - Denham Springs senior running back Tanner Koerner scored four touchdowns during his junior season with the Yellow Jackets. In just one game against Woodlawn, an offensive shootout that Denham Springs ended up winning 73-54, Koerner scored four touchdowns, matching his 2025 total and surpassing it with the two touchdowns he had going into the game.
Denham Springs entered 2026 with a lot of turnover on the roster. 41 seniors graduated from the roster, leaving the Yellow Jackets without the bulk of their offensive production from a very successful season.
That opened the door for Koerner to step up into a bigger role for his final year of high school football.
"When you have that many guys leave the program, you've got to have guys step up," Koerner said. "That's what we've been trying to do; that's what I've been trying to do is step up. People say it's a rebuild year, but I don't think it's a rebuild year, because I plan on winning just as many games."
