Baton Rouge regular gas stays about $3.92 as Gulf oil production starts to recover

BATON ROUGE — Gas prices in Baton Rouge have not seen a significant jump after Hurricane Isaias disrupted oil production in the Gulf.

As of Saturday, federal officials reported nearly 69 percent of production was shut down. The Energy Department has authorized up to 4 million barrels of emergency oil exchanges to help keep supplies moving.

AAA puts regular gas at about $3.92 a gallon in Baton Rouge. Drivers said higher prices would mean tougher choices.

"80 bucks it was now it's 30 to $40 more than that. That's a lot, that's dinner out," said Lejeanne Smith.

"It affects the way that I live, the way that I buy groceries and the way that I eat food. It's a lot of budgeting," said Rylie Fisher.

Oil companies have begun restoring production. It is still unclear whether the disruption will push local gas prices higher.
